POS SURVEY/INITIAL RESPONSES

CRAFT has received over 20 responses to its initial request for information about POS (Point of Sale) systems that members are using. To date members indicate they are using the following systems:

Artisan, Certek Software Designs, Inc., www.certek-software.com. (Artisan/Certek is a member of CRAFT and will be exhibiting at ACRE)

Quickbooks Point of Sale, Intuit, www.quickbooks.intuit.com. (enter "pos" in search)

ICE, CAM Commerce Solutions, www.camcommerce.com. (This program is basically offered for free or next to nothing as an introduction to the more advanced CAM products)

DACEASY, Sage, www.daceasy.com.

PAYGO, Christian James, Inc., www.christianjames.net.

Retail 2005 (there are later editions), Seaport, www.seaportsoftware.com.

Retail Pro, www.retailprosoftware.com.

MicroBiz, CAM Commerce Solutions, www.microbiz.com. (MicroBiz was a separate company that CAM acquired several years ago which it continues to support.)

Shopkeeper, www.shopkeeper.com.

POSIM, Ensign Software, www.posim.com.

Catapult, ECRSoft, www.ecrsoft.com.

None of the members responding stated that they were disappointed with the program that they were using. The programs appear to range in price from a few hundred to several thousands of dollars, not including hardware, with the exception of the ICE program from CAM which is referred to above. It appears that some, but not all of the programs can run on MAC as well as PC. Programs being utilized by more than one member included Artisan, Quickbooks POS, Retail Pro and Shopkeeper. Most if not all vendors offer free trial versions or samples via their websites.

CRAFT would like to continue to investigate the choices of POS systems that members are using and provide help and information to members with regard to selection of systems, including hardware, to install as well as operation of these systems to the fullest extent of their capabilities as efficient and effective tools of business management.

If any member is using any other program than those listed or would like to offer comments or "reviews" of any program or hardware, please forward that information to CRAFT so that it can be passed along to the membership.

In addition, if you are interested in CRAFT attempting to facilitate a "users group" relating to any specific program or POS software or hardware in general, please let us know and CRAFT will investigate the possibilities of doing so via the CRAFT website.
