			<title>Market Trends in 2008</title>

&lt;div&gt;In preparing this survey we interviewed a retailer who we suspect is having a typical experience:&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;blockquote class=&quot;webkit-indent-blockquote&quot; style=&quot;margin: 0 0 0 40px; border: none; padding: 0px;&quot;&gt;&lt;em&gt;The housing market downturn first affected the higher end art market (wall art, furniture, etc.) in early 2008. &#160;This has segment has dropped radically. &#160;The next change in sales volume started in September 2008. &#160;All the other local stores were discounting starting in early December 2008. &#160;So our customers seemed to expect us to discount too. &#160;Our customers say they can't splurge this year with our &quot;201K&quot;, (401K value cut in half). &#160;Sure glad we had a wide range of price points. &#160;Sold the lower priced art glass, but still have all the high-end art glass going into the new year. &#160;Saw same regular customers but they bought less expensive items. They had the same number of transactions, but the average selling price was down so the sales were down double digits.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
Our credit cards were full early in the year and the bank would not give the same line of credit as in the past. &#160;The artists want us to give them a credit card for new orders. &#160;We understand everyone has a cash flow challenge, but we need new credit to add new inventory!&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
We do not have the cash to invest in advertising to get new customers, so we are doing emailing to existing customers to solicit interest.&lt;/em&gt; &#160;&lt;/blockquote&gt;
